O1-O2 Visa Advisory Letters

The Guild can provide an advisory letter to support petitions for 01 and 02 visas relating to persons of extraordinarily ability and achievement in the motion picture and entertainment industries, and in the arts., as the case may be. This would include professional work in film, video and performing arts, in all formats. We are a professional guild and do cannot consider opinions based only on student, amateur or community experience.

The process is as follows:
A. An request for an advisory/opinion letter must be made through a professional representative, attorney or a petitioning entity. It cannot be made by the beneficiary on his or her own behalf.
B. The following documents should be submitted in digital form, preferably PDF files, by email to credentials@independentproducersguild.org to the attention of the IIPG Accreditation Board:

  1. Cover letter, outlining the request, and
  2. Supporting documents, which should include any or all of:
  3. contract or deal memos relating to the application, or the appropriate evidence of oral agreement as set out in the regulations;
  4. Copies of awards, notes of distinction, if any;
  5. Professional resume or cv, as the case may be;
  6. Letters of recommendation from colleagues and past employers, if any;
  7. A copy of the i-129 for which the letter is to support;
  8. Itinerary of the beneficiary;
  9. Links to professional credits and listings, including IMDb.com entry;
  10. If available, verifiable references or links to box office or commercial sales statistics relating to productions the applicant has worked on, in the capacity for which he or she is seeking a visa, if available.

Upon receipt of the submission, the Guild will assess whether it can provide a positive opinion with a “no objection.” If it cannot do so on the basis of the information provided, the Guild will not issue any opinion at all.

If the Guild determines it can issue a positive letter, the applicant will be invoiced for the appropriate fee(s). Upon payment of the fees, the letter will be issued, usually within 5 business days, in PDF form electronically, and originals by mail.

Fees:

  • Initial letter USD$375
  • Additional letter relating to O2, if required, USD$50
  • The fees may be paid by money order, cashiers check, attorney’s check or by debit or credit card through PayPal. Personal checks are not accepted.
  • Fees for Full Members of the Guild, in good standing, are waived.
